there will be less poker content for a couple weeks - AC depleted the bankroll severely and I'm not into rebuying right now -

although from what I hear, missing work last week was almost worth dropping a grand - LOL -

3 more hours and I can go home and sleep the sleep of the dead.

wow...did I have money before?

went apeshit - bought Battlestar Galactica, Season One, Star Trek TOS, season One, and a few books, including one TT recommended, How's your Limit Hold Em, which he recommended as one of the best books out there today on Limit Holdem -

just going apeshit spending wise today - trying to find things to do to keep me busy at night besides drinking - smart thinking -

What I really need to do though is buy me a girlfriend - LOL -

my NYC/AC trip report is up here on twoplustwo - no point in reprinting it for the masses...

Gotta repair a cracked taillight today (not so cracked I can't make it to the parts dept. and get it and get home)

I'm torn...on one hand, today is BEAUTIFUL - only gonna be about 75 degrees - On the other hand, I'm listening to Hit and Run by Bill Mallonee, and I'm thinking of just doing an album of voices/acoustic - laying tracks down and then selling it on Wed. night's open stage - LOL

I don't know if I told you guys this, but I've been so burned out by my 4 day work week (that's 12 hr days, mind you) that I took off every Wed. I have one for the next 2 months - (still have a bit of vacation time left) - so I get every third Wed. off - AND that puts me in a spot to do the Terminal Bar Open Stage which is awesome - so I'm looking forward to putting on a guitar and knocking their socks off again.

Otherwise, all is well - TTYL

Monday, July 25, 2005 much for the CC - think it's ok...sounds like we can cancel fast and get it replaced...

let's get the 10 observations in from AC

1. - Never leave for AC at 5 in the afternoon on a Friday....(well, 6pm - that was my fault...shoulda took my bag with me)

2. - The Borgata reminds me a LOT of the Wynn visually - guess it was gonna be one of his but he let it go...

3. - AC MAY have a higher concentration of poker tables then Las Vegas - some of those rooms were huge...

4. - the best game at the Borgata isn't the poker game - it's either "spot the hooker" or when you're sitting at the poker table, you can play "real or fake" with the waitresses....jesus.... (probably real - hard to believe someone would get a boob job just to become a waitress...LOL)

5. - in time, the Showboat may have the best room in Vegas atmosphere wise - bad dealers though with many of them being regular dealers - talking with the floor, it was clear that we couldn't get a HORSE or SHOE game going because the guys couldn't possibly read/deal Omaha - hell, the Tropicana could barely do it when I played two hrs of 2/4 Omaha H/L - but it was nice, quiet, cool - and I wish I had spent some time there...

6. Outside the poker room at the Tropicana, there's some girl group there - all hot, wearing vinyl outfits and playing the hits of today....The fun game there was guessing who was playing their instruments and who was lipsyncing... - Clearly there were background tracks triggered by the drummer/metronome - I think the Bass player was real - the guitar player may have been too but I couldn't pick out her instrument from the synth prerecorded tracks those covers (like Crazy in Love/Beyonce) required...either way....they could draw a crowd... - I think she was just strumming for show, to be honest...

7. the Poker Gods of Atlantic City use me as a piss urinal - dropped $540 in 3 hrs (the whole of my NYC profit) - mostly on two key hands where I flopped set UNDER set - no bad beat stories here - just a monster that got killed by the dragon of all monsters - - (8's vs T's in one cae, T's vs A's in the 2nd) - actually, I had two full houses by the times the hands were done but my opponents had quads or a bigger boat - you try not losing your NL stack in that spot - LOL - Borgata the next day was no better - dropping $700 in 8 hrs of 10/20 Limit...

8. 10/20 Limit seems big money, but after 1/2 NL it's not that scary really - unless you're running out of money....going broke...then it sucks.

9. The Atlantic Ocean doesn't look as chaotic as the Pacific, for some reason - but then, that was beach - but I'm guessing no one really surfs on the East Coast...Water must just like to flow from West to East

10. Yep, it's a Monopoly board :) - I memorized it as a kid studying how to win monopoly....funny how stuff comes around..

can't locate the Credit Card in the wallet - used it at the Newark Airport to buy a book so it COULD be in a spare pocket, but it seems gone....

then last night I get a VM from Visa Fraud Prevention....

I have a feeling my day just got real busy....between that and a cracked taillight...fuck.

holy's the math...

One shuttle from Tropicana Atlantic City to Bus terminal
One greyhound bus from AC to Manhattan
One Subway from Port Authority to the WTC site
One PATH train from WTC to Newark
One NJ Transit Train from Newark to the Airport
One Airtrain from the Airport stop thru 5 parking garages/terminals
One airplane from Newark to Chicago
One transfer to an airplane from Chicago to Minneapolis
One Light Rail from the Mpls. airport to downtown
One #17 Bus from Downtown to the place where I called in 10 min. before to get my chinese food
Walk two blocks to apt. -

damn...I'm tired....I'll write a trip report later - LOL

greetings from the nutjob in the Big Apple -

I'm in an internet cafe on Bleeker St. - checking in, chilling out, AC is next - played a couple days in the private clubs in NYC and now it's casino time again -

Top 10 observations so far....

1. - Not like Law and Order - contrary to what were my first perceptions, almost no one has been killed/robbed/or anything in my presence - you get these stereotypes and that's one that was in my head - glad to see that's not true...awesome town. Walking down the street at 1am with a 1K bankroll isn't an issue. (of course, I'm not fanning myself with it or anything - LOL)

2. - downside stereotype, apt's in NYC aren't as big as Friends or Rounders (or if they are, they're 10K a month) - no way coffee shop girl is gonna be paying 5K a month for the nice 2 bedroom - LOL - of course, I have no idea what the owner pays Rachel, so who knows...

3. - Luv2DriveTT is right about one thing - a buffet of women - any style/dress/ethnicity - lovely everywhere...

4. - NL in NYC plays like on the internet...on Party Poker...

5. - I had no idea they put the garbage in front of the buildings...not too cool with that, but I understand it...but sometimes all I smell is the trash -

6. - It takes 24 hrs. to become familiar with the subway system - after that I'm telling people where their next stop is...Bus system is still a mystery though.

7. - When in the Museum of Natural History, go for the Northern Indians exhibit - dark, very well AC'd, and kids don't wanna see baskets/old clothes, so they stay away from it - great place for a rest

8. - Times Square reminds me of a Tokyo or Blade Runner scene -

9. - the Burger at the Corner Bistro is very good - ...and NJChick is a sweetheart who was way too good to me for my 24 hrs. I was here :) - (she told me the tip was 5 bucks for our meal, but I saw her sneak in the extra 10% on the CC slip as we left...yes, you did not sneak that by me...LOL)

10 - Bleeker St. (where this is being typed) - one of my first impressions is of the Simon/Garfunkel Album Wed. Morning 3AM where he sang a song about it (that was so bad in his opinion he never published words for it, I don't think, in his songbook) - as a kid, I drew a picture based on the song, and looked at maps of where this folk scene started - it's different now ($30 bucks will no LONGER ever come close to paying your rent) - a bit more upscale, but that's what happens to good things - even bought an album of modern folk artists covering old school folk artists who played here at that time - (album had the same name as the St.)

but to summarize, I'm glad I get to walk it today, even in the humidity......

allrighty....bathroom and walking time again - let's wrap this up with Paul's lyrics...what the hell...

on second thought....nevermind - just read them again - it ain't the same place, so no point in printing's definately better now then I would have expected in 1990 - mountains better -

allrighty.....let's try leaving a 2nd time - LOL

this will probably be my last post before NYC - so we'll see ya in 4 days -

not gonna lie to ya - this is not the brightest time in my life - I'm hoping the change will do me good for a few days - Steve seems to have things planned out well-

ah fuck it - any change is good

Dear Lord....

My heart is the strong hand you slowplayed...
now it's in danger and I don't know why you don't defend it.

sheeeit.... - almost blew off band practice - forgot we moved to Monday's -

I'm gonna repost this snippet of this lyric from the last post - seems like a good summary of the time - - while I can't endorse Kazza or anything that takes money from the artist, it's worth a quick download -

From "Glenn Tipton"

I put my feet up on the coffee table
I stay up late watching cable
I like old movies with Clark Gable
Just like my dad does
Just like my dad did when he was home
Staying up late, staying up alone
Just like my dad did when he was thinking
Oh, how fast the years fly

Sunday, July 17, 2005

did some searching on Google (as I often do, googling for ex-girlfriends, ex classmates, info on Lap Dulcimers and strippers/escorts) and it appears that Whiskeytown is famous in the poker blogger community for two reasons.

1. - for having a t-shirt that says "Creed Sucks" - (which is now unavailable, btw - motherfuckers discontinued it)
2. - for showing up an hr late to the WPBT, playing 3 hands, busting out, and leaving - LOL

I should just change my nic. to whiskey - no one ever calls me whiskeytown online - just whiskey...someday Ryan Adams is gonna come kick my ass for borrowing his band name for an online poker handle.

not much poker content right now - not a lot left in me pokerwise - I have about $117 in Doyle's room - $622 in withdrawls that left Games Grid fast but slowed down getting to Neteller - I'd like to play Charlie's tourney tonight - maybe - we'll see -

Going back to one of those previous posts, yah - poker has gotten sadly uninteresting recently - I'm hoping a shot in the arm at all these new rooms will help get me back in the game - we'll see - someone said all my boredom isn't boredom, it's depression - fuck....not that shit again - I'd rather have herpes or some other non-lethal yet embarassingly humiliting crotch rot. - Well, we'll see how it goes - after today, no work for 10 days, BABEEEEEEEE - (better return my netflix while I'm at it) - if that don't cure depression, nothing will -

crap - I leave at 7:30am for NYC - that means I'll want to be going at 4:30am to the bus to get there by 5:45 and do the airport security thing - damn.. -

gonna keep it sparse - cellphone, dig. camera - some clothes, and books - no DVD player - I'll have to carry that damn thing around NYC on Fri. so not too heavy or easy to shoplift.

I'm still conflicted on the bankroll thingy - LOL - Steve wants me to bring 2K and to play 10/20 - me, I'm a bigger fan of 1/2 NL. 10/20 is the highest limit I'll have ever played - (though I've thrown bigger bets in a NL game) - so I'm feeling shakey on it - but I'll tough it out - after this little shennigans, I need to rebuild the BR from ground zero - wipe out losses - play lots of $11 SNG's and rape the mother loving bastards who can't play poker -

you know....that reminds me - I remember a royal flush recently - I wonder if that really happened - LOL - either I did it really drunk or I was dreaming - It feels more like a dream, to be honest... - seems to me a Royal Flush would stick thru the haze of whiskey, whereas in a dream, they're worse then blacking out - passing glances of dust devils - but it doesn't mean I haven't been drunk lately either. It just

nothing good ever happens to me in dreams - I never have sex, for one - about the only good thing that happens is I seem to cheat death a lot - I am up high a lot - I fall a lot - and after some heavy sessions, I tend to have bad poker dreams, like where we're playing poker on the craps table - LOL -

motherloving motherfuckers...

let's end this with some cool lyrics to a great song - Mark Kozalek's Glenn Tipton (from the Sun Kil Moon album Ghosts of the Great Highway)

Cassius Clay was hated more than Sonny Liston
Some like KK Downing more than Glenn Tipton
Some like Jim Nabors, some Bobby Vinton
I like ‘em all

I put my feet up on the coffee table
I stay up late watching cable
I like old movies with Clark Gable
Just like my dad does

Just like my dad did when he was home
Staying up late, staying up alone
Just like my dad did when he was thinking
Oh, how fast the years fly

I know an old woman ran a doughnut shop
She worked late serving cops
But then one morning, baby, her heart stopped
Place ain’t the same no more

Place ain’t the same no more
Not without my friend, Eleanor
Place ain’t the same no more
Man, how things change

I buried my first victim when I was nineteen
Went through her bedroom and the pockets of her jeans
And found her letters that said so many things
That really hurt me bad

I never breathed her name again
But I liked to dream about what could have been
I never heard her calls again
But I like to dream

I KNOW I've posted this before - It's a song about Townes Van Zandt - by Jay Farrar(Son Volt) -

it goes thru my head from time to time - for some reason, after reading Asia K's last post, it came to mind again - I guess it's for everyone for whom the knife has gotten a little too sharp or a little too dull lately...everyone I know lately (esp. online) seems to have picked up a sharp desperation lately, as if they are on their last nerve -

So I'll post this one for Asia K ;)

Too Early - Jay Farrar

mileage has taken its toll
paid it with lines to show
you've had your fill of asphalt
and cough tremors in smoke filled doors
you look like the habit controls you
you look like you need a rest
you've made it to the timberline
don't know what to expect

god knows you don't need it
too early you might be the one
find yourself somewhere else too early in the sun

the song strains distant over
the barroom, drink filled roar
the old folk singer lays it down
not for long no longer ignored
spinning tales of temptation
of gambling days lost and won
no crimes committed here
too much habit could be the one

god knows you don't need it
too early you might be the one
find yourself somewhere else too early in the sun

never seen half of what you've seen
real life never quite adds up
the road goes on when the faces don't
word of mouth never tells the truth
like to hear your story told
with a two step beating rhyme
could be tennessee or texas
on and on that road winds

god knows you don't need it
too early you might be the one
find yourself somewhere else too early in the sun

I'm bored......with everything -

with poker, with life, with movies, with guitars and playing music, with the goddamn heatwave outside -

and that's bad - cause then I go right to the nearest bar and attempt to relieve it - or to the fridge to nuke a shitload of frozen chicken, which is worse for me...

I'm bored with the choices that life presents me, bored with the choices I've made, and I'm bored at work and I'm bored at home -

bored, bored, bored - absolutely no interest in anything - hopefully my trip to NYC will help a bit - check out that east coast and Hudson River - gotta get me a digital camera as well -

boring, bore, bored....

Fuck almighty - Matusow is the only pro to make it to the final table this year - He's getting a ton of TV time and next year, the WSOP will be dominated by assholes who think it's +EV to be a jackass cause it MIGHT put people on tilt.

in an attempt to suck up (or maybe just to have a night off) - I've volunteered to work Sat. this week instead of Fri - this being because one coworker visiting his family was displaced by Hurricane Dennis - so no one was gonna be in on SAT...LOL - so I'll go home and have nothing to do for Fri. except chill and wait till Sat. -

Inneresting quote about Jessica Biel in Star Magazine

I'm a very big fan of PDA. I'll do it anywhere. If I see a couple making out in public, I'm always like, 'Awww. Can I join?'

ummmm...hell yes - is that the correct answer? - Anytime you want, Miss Jessica - you can also take advantage of me, but remember to take some naked home movies if I'm passed out so I have something to remember the occasion by.

Gawd, no work, and I hate going out on Friday nights - esp. if I have to work the next day - ah well - better suck it up. - After all, there are women without whiskey out there - :) -

speaking of the DBT - here's a good one from Jason Isbell -

I got green and I got blues
and everyday there's a little less difference between the two.
So I belly-up and disappear.
Well I ain't really drowning 'cause I see the beach from here.

I could take a Greyhound home but when I got there it'd be gone
along with everything a home is made up of.
So I'll take two of what you're having and I'll take all of what you got
to kill this goddamn lonely, goddamn lonely love.

Sister, listen to what your daddy says.
Don't be ashamed of things that hide behind your dress.
Belly-up and arch your back.
Well I ain't really falling asleep; I'm fading to black.

You could come to me by plane, but that wouldn't be the same
as that old motel room in Texarkana was.
So I'll take two of what you're having and I'll take all of what you got
to kill this goddamn lonely, goddamn lonely love.

Stop me if you've heard this one before:
A man walks into a bar and leaves before his ashes hit the floor.
Stop me if I ever get that far.
The sun's a desperate star that burns like every single one before.

And I could find another dream, one that keeps me warm and clean
but I ain't dreamin' anymore, I'm waking up.
So I'll take two of what you're having and I'll take everything you got
to kill this goddamn lonely, goddamn lonely love.

I have a confession to make...

I've been going to Barry Greenstein's website and sticking around on the homepage for the song that plays at the bottom thru the mp3/wav player -

it's called Con Te Partiro - Andrea Bocelli - it's what he calls the Bellagio theme song - apparently you hear it everywhere.

It logged in my head as the first song I ever saw the Bellagio fountain show play to - so when I listen to it, I get homesick for Vegas (not that Vegas was or ever will be home....travelsick?) -

anyways....just had to Barry's book - looks good - binding scares me a bit - no rough cramped backpack rides for that book.

Wednesday, July 13, 2005

first off, I REALLY hope Phil Ivey wins the WSOP - I think it'd be great for poker and living proof that sometimes the best players can win.

second, I pray to god and heaven Mike Matusow comes nowhere near the final table - he's already gotten a lot of feature table coverage, and if that asshole wins, the amount of idiocy we're gonna have to put up with (you know, monkey see, monkey do) is gonna be unbearable.

That is all - evidently I still suck at blackjack.

That guy and his girlfriend who I met at Canterbury? The one who won the seat on Paradise and had the GF know that obscure Counting Crows song?

He took 399th place - got 18K - not a bad run.

Locket Full Of Moonlight (Reprise) by Bill Mallonee - insert harmonica feedback here....

this song got me thru many a cold winter night...

out beneath the milky way
trying to find a place to stay
it got harder after time
became this line you crossed
and somewhat undefined

now i'm drifting
beneath those things that held me up
all those thing my hands could touch
like my lips upon yours
they're all gone
that's all gone

that piece of the romantic
always dies a death that's tragic
and the part that felt so clean and new
that's now vanished inside you

now i'm drifting
beneath those things that held me up
all those thing my hands could touch
like my lips upon yours
they're all gone
that's all gone

never underestimate
distance is a feather or a crushing weight
somewhere in the darkest night
lost your locket full of moonlight

now i'm drifting
beneath those things that held me up
all those thing my hands could touch
like my lips upon yours
they're all gone
that's all gone

Ok....that was a drunk post with a great point, but nevertheless, lost in waves of whiskey (and whiskeytown) -

let me try again -

Ever get the feeling that there's folks that go to heaven, and those that go to hell, but some of us slip in thru loopholes without really doing anything?

I can see God going to everyone like in that Mindy Smith song - "Here you go - during all those trials/tribulations, here's why you went thru it - here's the point to all that sorrow and sadness -

but I can see him coming to me and saying "well, Russ, you love my son, and you love God, so I'll let this crap on the books all go, but as far as children go, you've been a sorry fucking disappointment, bro - all that shit you went thru wasn't to build strength or perservance, it was, well, cause I just don't like you much....way to slip thru the cracks, asshole"

that's the speech awaiting me in you can see why I'm in such a hurry to get there....LOL -

Sunday, July 10, 2005

ah....ok - I PROBABLY shouldn't have done that - LOL

played ultra tight the first 90 min - picked up a pot, lost a pot - stayed even at 4K

One guy (Joe) goes on a mega run - AA 3 times, each time with another opponent all in, each time he turns trips - he got QQ - he was playing one guy in seat 3 - flop comes AKQ - Joe check-raises all in, and the kid shows an A and lays it down and Joe shows J10 - Mega run - I expect to see he won, to be honest...

So I'm doing my Harrington grinding shit, and I get one hand near the end of our 100/200 blinds before the break - QQ - I KNOW if I raise to 700, and the short stack that just came to our table has ANY kind of a hand, he'll go all in for 1600 - (he did it the moment he sat down) - I also know I'll be ahead when he does - He does and I do and he turns over A10

I don't need to go on, do I? - I was right about all my reads, but I can't read what the flop will bring - shit happens -

so I have 1200 left, and we're getting close to the break - and I make a decision - I'll go all in before the break if I get anything decent - I don't want to sit thru a 10 min break and end up with 3 times the BB in two hands - I get J10 offsuit, and this is actually decent (even a slight fav. to small pocket pairs) - I get called by one guy in the BB with A9

Flop comes AAJ - turn gives the case A - I lose to quads -

I should have known better - when you're having a shit day at work, you'll have a shit day at the table and God shit on me a lot last night - ah well - time to go out and get drunk -

well, right after this one tournament I'm playing - LOL - ADDICT!!!!!!!!

while we're on the subject of terrible ideas....

Canterbury Park has the $440 tourney today - 40 min rounds - 4K in chips - blinds start at 25/50

I never have had a ton of luck in this thing - got snapped off with one table to go once - wasn't much fun - but I've got $440 in the live bankroll, and I've been having so much fun reading about the damned thing in Vegas that I want to play it -

so I think I will - of course, that's at the end of a 12 hr. work shift, but it's light - I slept till 6:30pm, so I SHOULD be good from 11am till the end of the clock - christ I made the Imperial Palace one on 36 hrs awake and a whiskey bender, I can sure do this one -

I like reading this journal. Anytime I think I might be going a bit too far, I can remember I don't have Ellix Powers as a mooch and I'm not blacking out and finding vomit on the floor trying to remember where I ate green peppers - LOL.

I should add the link over on the right...

Friday, July 08, 2005

things got real quiet tonight - I can write a post -

ol sicko with the shit eating grin is back in the profiles on 2+2 and here - I had Captain Jack up there for a couple weeks - it goes back to that H.L. Menecken quote.

I once wrote that there comes a point in everyone's life where things get to such a state and such a frame of mind that cutting off one's ear and giving it to a prostitute seems like the only rational response that makes any sense to this world. -

Johnny Cash didn't go that far, but he wore black. Townes Van Zandt drank his demons away - Neil cranked the amp up to 12 and turned his into goddamn walls of noise and sound...

me, I changed my icon to a pirate flag - I wanted to slit some throats - I refrained because my only friend in the world is a crack dealer and you do NOT want to kill your crack dealer because those things are damn hard to replace (but surprisingly easy to take over their business should you do so) - bartenders are a dime a dozen, however - there may be a few less in the weeks to come around town.

Anyways, I won't get into all that - I think the breaking point was reading Republicans actually fucking DEFEND Joseph McCarthy and his goddamn witch hunts - Jesus - Ann Coultier calls him a hero - who's her idol, fucking Adolf?

Anyways...enough of that - I am gonna go buy a cheapo $150 digital camera for NYC - (two weeks, baby) - I've loved photographs and photography, to be honest - should have picked it up as a hobby, but I hate developing film (i.e. running to the damned store and developing it) - no fun for me - digital will finish that off for me, and if I become addicted, then I get the $700 camera - what beautiful girl doesn't want to be's an in, babyeee....

I'll be over in Jersey City - right next to the rail line into Manhattan - I'll spend a couple days there crusing the big apple - hit a private game, hit a private club a friend heard is open again (and shall remain nameless here so none of the fucking narcs can shut it down) - and two days in Atlantic City - take the 7am bus back and catch that 1:45 plane - take a week vacation.

There is one downside (writing to you here, Asia K) - I've got to withdraw all online bankrolls for this trip - Steve seems to think I better be ready with 2K for the 10/20 games - I'm not normally playing that high - I can always redeposit it, but I feel bad - I put money into Games Grid for 10 days and then I pull it again, as well as $200 in Doyles - that plus the Vegas BR will get me close to 2K - then just a stop at the ATM and I'm done.

So no fears - I'll probably be back - I have to clear that bonus, remember? - but right now, I need tournaments again when I get done I'll probably reinvest a bit of it into Pokerstars/Full Tilt again. But I withdraw today and it takes 3-5 to clear neteller and 3-5 to get into the account - so it's gotta be done.

something potentially exciting may happen...but I can't post it here yet - hell, it ain't even that exciting - just different - but it would also involve about 20,000 dollars - that's just sweet - LOL- so we'll see.

Some big names out in day 1 of the WSOP - a few I would have liked to see win - No sign of Gavin yet - wonder if he skipped out with the money....LOL - I see Grannymae's investors died when a guy slowplayed his AA right into her QQ - that's a kick in the granny balls (whatever granny balls are) -

wow...almost time to go home - two nights to go - One nice thing about this job - wonderful vacation benefits - I'm close to 6 weeks when it all adds up - gotta work some holidays, but those are usually quieter then anything - so who cares - free money....

I'm about to take my 3rd of 6 weeks of vacation - and it's in New York City - if I can make it there, baby I'll make it anywhere...

(ah fuck it, why would I want to make it there when i've already made it here....LOL)

Thursday, July 07, 2005

I'm all messed up -

for some reason, I thought the Main Event would begin on the 14th, and end sometime during my trip to NYC - or maybe I scheduled my trip to NYC to miss it - but in any case, it's starting tomorrow -

Gavin has been absolutely dudsville on our investment (sorry bro - it's the truth) - so I'm not counting on him here - I guess it was $450 down the drain - ah well - I fared better then those who put $900 on him -

so to ye who are about to duel tomorrow, we salute you - kick ass....sort of. it'll be cool to see the best of 6600 when it's all done -

I am in mega super shape for this week and the next - I've ordered Barry Greenstein's new book, the Nolan Dalla bio of Stuey, and the Suicide King's book (about Andy Beal vs. the Corporation) - now all I need is a barstool and a nice quiet spot to read while sipping whiskey.

Felicia is off to chemo...

It is my hope that one of her close friends has offered to help her score some weed, which really takes the edge off the nausea, I've heard -

best of luck - see ya when you get back...

Man....two weeks to New York City - that'll rock...

know what I need....esp. now that I have SO many readers? -

I need a rerun -

Go out and rent the movie Heartlands - this is the song playing when he's on the beach playing darts with the stuffed bear --

Let the Cold Wind Blow - Kate Rusby

Oh dear me what do mine eyes see
James Renald and my love sat under yon tree
my heart it bleeds
for she loves him indeed
sing hi lo lay at the end of the day
sing hi lo lay at the end of the day

Here I stand empty heart, empty hand
While he has my true love and he has the land
Oh my heart is sore
For she loves me no more
sing hi lo lay at the end of the day
sing hi lo lay at the end of the day

No more she'll fly, no more she'll cry
All over the cold earth beneath which I lie
Oh my heart it grieves
for my side she now leaves
sing hi lo lay at the end of the day
sing hi lo lay at the end of the day

Let the cold wind blow, let the years come and go
I'll wait for my true love, though she'll never know
I wish them no rest
Like the heart in my breast
sing hi lo lay at the end of the day
sing hi lo lay at the end of the day

I wish them no rest
Like the heart in my breast
sing hi lo lay at the end of the day
sing hi lo lay at the end of the day

regarding the Counting Crows....

great band - first 3 albums were the bomb - 4th one blew vomit chunks - and not the watery kind from drinking too much - I'm talking that full blown food poisoning heaving -

but a funny story - yrs ago I was between jobs and getting stuff at Cheapo records when a girl was asking the staff something about that album - (the track from Cruel Intentions is on there, and she didn't know if it was or not) - so I volunteered that bit of info and she went on her way - sorta cool that I had that sort of knowledge and the record store didn't - LOL (they didn't hire me either, which is fine )

so anyways, I get bored last night and do the 3am Canterbury run again - sit down and play up the drunk player (well, I was, slightly) - and I sit next to this one cute girl and her boyfriend (who won a seat to the WSOP ME thru Paradise) - and I'm alternating between having fun and ragging on them (he says she needs to go home and pack for him, I say she only has to pack for one day - stuff like that....LOL) -

anyways, I sing that one line "There's a piece of Maria in every song that I sing" and she recognized it right away....which impressed the hell out of me - (Maria being that girl from the first track on the first album, Round Here) -

so that was cool, and of course, the lyrics are awesome - (If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts) - nice girl - too bad her guy can't play poker - LOL -

there was another woman there too - mid 30's, I'd guess - fairly attractive - interesting - cause she had a very obvious belly button piercing, and I would have not put a woman in her mid 30's on one of those - tight stomach - she hardly ever played a pot but she knew what she was doing, but a bit of a bitch - complained when a guy called three bets cold preflop with KK - LOL

a guy in seat 9 with sunglasses - I got to use my new line on him when he beat my trip 3's to 7's full of 3's - I said I knew he had a good hand cause his seeing-eye dog licks his balls when he gets a good hand -

but in the end, I was just too damn bored and the table was getting too wise to me, so I ended up $129 dollars and headed for the door - nice couple hrs of work.

suffice it to say, the nation and our country is in shitty shape - but Happy 4th of July anyways....

Mrs. Potter's Lullaby - Adam Duritz (Counting Crows)

Well I woke up in mid-afternoon cause that's when it all hurts the most
I dream I never know anyone at the party and I'm always the host
If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts
You can never escape, you can only move south down the coast

Well, I am an idiot walking a tightrope of fortune and fame
I am an acrobat swinging trapezes through circles of flame
If you've never stared off in the distance, then your life is a shame
And though I'll never forget your face, sometimes I can't remember my name

Hey Mrs. Potter don't cry
Hey Mrs. Potter I know why but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

Well, there's a piece of Maria in every song that I sing
And the price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings
And there is always one last light to turn out and one last bell to ring
And the last one out of the circus has to lock up everything

Or the elephants will get out and forget to remember what you said
And the ghosts of the tilt-a-whirl will linger inside of your head
And the ferris wheel junkies will spin them forever instead
When I see you a blanket of stars covers me in bed

Hey Mrs. Potter don't go
Hey Mrs. Potter I don't know but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

All the blue light reflections that color my mind when I sleep
And the lovesick rejections that accompany the company I keep
All the razor perceptions that cut just a little too deep
Hey I can bleed as well as anyone, but I need someone to help me sleep

So I throw my hand into the air and it swims in the beams
It's just a brief interruption of the swirling dust sparkle jet stream
Well, I know I don't know you and you're probably not what you seem
But I'd sure like to find out so why don't you climb down off that movie screen

Hey Mrs. Potter don't turn
Hey Mrs. Potter I burn for you
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

When the last king of Hollywood shatters his glass on the floor
and orders another, Well, I wonder what he did that for
That's when I know that I have to get out cause I have been there before
So I gave up my seat at the bar and I head for the door

We drove out to the desert just to lie down beneath this bowl of stars
We stand up at the Palace like it's the last of the great Pioneertown bars
We shout out these songs against the clang of electric guitars
You can see a million miles tonight but you can't get very far

Hey Mrs. Potter I won't touch and
Hey Mrs. Potter it's not much but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

I'm not thrilled with the last few posts - I hate snippit posts - I need uberposts - No one ever remembers a short film or short story - LOL -

I'm going drunk and mad with power - I am in charge tonight at work - Anyone who needs absolute power to be corrupted absolutely isn't trying hard enough to work with what he's go - I only need a little bit to be corrupted almost just as much - LOL

Poker stuff...

Ok, first off, I posted this on 2+2 - regarding the Razz Event at the WSOP - as reported by the most famous WSOP writer ever, Pauly, on

Jen Creason ran into a little bad luck when action was down to two tables. She was issued a ten minute penalty for use of profanity at the table. She was all in with the worst hand and dropped the dreaded "F-bomb." She caught a lucky card on the river to beat her opponent.

After he lost the hand, he asked for a penalty to be called on Jen. Unfortunately for her, the ruling was held up by a floor manager. She lost most of her stack due to antes while waiting out her penalty and ended up in 15th place. After a short break, she was back to work in media row providing chip counts and updates of the Razz event.

Ok, first, the rule against the work fuck is garbage - If someone's constantly being berating and abusive, fine - but to let the word fuck slip out from under your breath when you're behind in a hand and THEN to have someone call you on it AFTER you've won,

that man is a pussy - plain and simple - boo hoo - words can hurt me?

I don't know what pisses me off worse - that he's so spineless that it bugged him, or the more likely case that he did it out of spite cause he lost the hand, which just makes him an angle player and therefore, both a prick and a pussy (equal opportunity here, folks) -

Two days after Johnny Chan wins his 10th bracelet (pulling into the lead of a contest that has been tied between him, Phil, and Doyle for a couple yrs, ) Doyle does the same thing - yah baby -

I'm down to -900 dollars in the spreadsheet - three 1/2 NL sessions in a row, each netting from 75-150 dollars in an hr. have put me at the forefront of asskicking again - my limit games were pretty goddamn sad though.. I've got an excel spreadsheet of SSH's hand rankings I'm going to keep by my desk and not deviate from for a week or two - I've gotten too loose with these damn suited connectors -

Onto the non-poker stuff - I've become entranced by this waste of time. No point to it - just drag her off if she gets stuck -

The Profile icon has changed - there's a reason for it - I almost got a pirate hat and wore that around the cities as well, but the cops will be out in force this weekend trying to pull drunk drivers over, and nothing says drunk driver like a pirate hat - LOL - instead of doing the 10pm-12am at one bar and the 12-2am at another bar, maybe I'll just walk and leave an hr earlier - not worth getting nailed - One thing I DON'T want to try once, esp. now that they've finally dropped the DUI limit to .08 - sheeeit - I get .08 from Listerine mouthwash in the morning.

To celebrate my newfound riches, (and the beginning of the month paycheck) - I went on a buying spree on Amazon -

Son Volt - A Retrospective: 1995-2000 (CD)
Drive By Truckers - Dirty South - Live at the 40 Watt (DVD)
Son Volt - Live from Austin, TX (CD)
Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway (CD)
HL Mencken - Mencken Chrestomathy (book)
Jay Farrar - Stone, Steel & Bright Lights (Live CD)

A lot of Jay Farrar in there (he's also the frontman for Son Volt and was one of the two for Uncle Tupelo, the other being Jeff Tweedy of Wilco) - I just think Farrar hit something more accessible to me - I want all this stuff and I want it now - (there's that deferred rewards shit creaping up on me again) -

Patterson Hood is coming to the 400 Bar on Sun. - debating going - it'll be packed the day before the 4th, I think, or maybe not - Maybe I'll just go and let there be rock.

Lindsey Lohan is in town shooting a movie - saw a shot of her on Late Night and she appears to have grown her breasts back a tiny back - man, I miss the fake Lindsey with the red hair and the curves...ah well - if it ain't malnutrition, it ain't hollywood

I have the desire to blow something up - get some M-80's, drop them under a coffee can, and just watch that mo-fo shread it - good stuff - maybe later -

combine that with the desire to reduce the world's population by about one half, and you have all the makings of a disaster in the works - LOL - seriously, we're too soft - losing 3 billion would be a big, big help to the world. Mother Nature is gonna be a bitch when she gets her payback....but she'll have the right to be..

All righty - that is all - I expect this every night this week to be a night of earning $100 snippets for an hr. of poker, 4 hrs of Star Wars/Knights of the Old Republic, 4 hrs of drinking, and 4 hrs of doing something that's just a waste of time - :D -

let's wrap this up with some awesome Jay Farrar/Son Volt lyrics

Medicine Hat - Jay Farrar

there will be droughts and days
inundated unveilings free from saturation
departures raised with no masquerading
there will be teachers that die by their own hand
pundits that push headlong for atonement
friends and followers devoted to living
there will be watchers that ply for new confines
and those committed to society's circles
unwary cogs with no cadence of virtue

there will be right
there will be wrong
drop of a hat and it's already started
just like that and the deed is done
what i'd give now for that hat to be medicine
the time is now to be on the run

there will be machinations unforeseen
sleepwalking sense from a bad dream
no promenade walk in the parkway
there will be catchwords filled with infection
circulars to prop up occasion
no golden mean to guide the footsteps
there will be levels on high hills that appraise
there will be unchanging certainties
barometers that follow the stampede

there will be right
there will be wrong
drop of a hat and it's already started
just like that and the deed is done
what i'd give for that hat to be medicine
the time is now to be on the run

there will be signposts of indication
semaphore go signs and warnings
hailstone halos and country blues wailings
there will be strains that break out of straight time
that pave with grace different roads to the same place
no consequence to repay what has been given
there will be layers of means to an end
drawn out days before resolution
dregs will rain down from all directions

there will be right
there will be wrong
drop of a hat and it's already started
just like that and the deed is done
what i'd give for that hat to be medicine
the time is now to be on the run

this is gonna be a super fun week -

MN govt. is in a partial shutdown, and everyone came out today to work on finding a solution....LOL - BWAHAHAHAHAHA - if by find a solution I mean bitch and point fingers...

and now with Sandra O'Conner leaving, any semblance of a filibuster deal will be swept away the moment GWB puts in his first candidate who thinks the Constitution calls for a theocracy -

very good chance that someone's gonna die this week in an act of violence inspired by political rhetoric - but they'll probably be spewing ignorance too and deserve it.

I will be sleeping soon, then getting up, and then working, and then sleeping, and then getting up, and then drinking whiskey.

while I'm away doing these things,
